ASL have worked with several departments within the BBC. One of the most interesting applications required a fairly basic 2U platform for the automation of switching video throughout the organisation.
The most important factor with this project was the configuration of the operating system. The BBC’s application required many of the OS settings to be set to non default settings and for various addresses to be changed. To complicate things further every new project had its own unique ID’s and addresses specific to that application or department.
To document this fully ASL worked with a BBC engineer in order to detail all of the necessary changes (30 pages). This document, together with instructions of how and where to install a number of digital I/O cards became the basis of the Animal Systems “Build Guide”. Every machine was built according to the “Build Guide” and checked against the “Build Guide” at the final QA inspection.
More recently ASL have become involved in a new project based on SuSE Linux for the rollout of digital radio broadcast throughout the UK.
ASL's ‘Rugged Mobile Computing’ solutions provide the solution to the increasingly demanding ‘field computing’ requirements – from Rugged Laptops to Ultra Rugged CE.Net handheld devices. Animal’s range of Rugged Mobile Computing Solutions meets military test standards for shock, vibration, moisture and temperature extremes.
